I think you are unnecessarily suspecting her posting. Retrogression kicked in Oct 2005 bulletin. So it is possible for her to apply in Feb 2005. I know for sure some people got their GC with similar priority dates. I think this whole immigration crap is turning everyone into cynical.

Thank you!! That's true exagerated values. With concurrent filing you can travel in and out of the country, you can work etc. Now we are moaning that the greencard is going to take forever! Wow! Be happy with this situation (file your i-140 & i-485) and stop these pessimistic views!

Based on this article, it looks like even those 140's and 485's filed after the cut-off date will be fine as long as the GC is approved before Oct 1, 2008, so folks will have some breathing time and flexibility to plan their next move, if the bill passes in the current form.

I think there are many ways to look at it. Doing Free service , yes it is a form of Gandhigiri, but will that cause the lawmakers to recognize us and pass laws in favor o fus..I do not think so.
I think our situation is no different than people in South Africa in Gandhian times. How Gandhi fought for them is by writing and writing and pestering the Authorities to reduce unfair taxes on Indians in SA and to solve other problems they had like cannot ride in the same Trains/cars as Whites etc...., fighting for their rights in a Vocal but Non Voilent - non aggressive approach.
We, in this post , have equated Gandhigiri with - divide ur attention - Go Do MBA- be occupied with something else while u are retrogressed, furthur ur career/skills,,,etc I do not think that is what Gandhigiri is about i.e. doing something for the self, but instead do it for the community. In this case IV is our community and its leaders are doing the right thing for our cause and if we continue to support that by adding members, funds we will do a fair bit of gandhigiri towards our cause.

For instance, I am sure maintaining this web site must cost money. How much more money is needed for our main cost drivers until March (for instance) --- by which time we are hoping some action will be taken?
Adding more members will always help because it produces a bigger impact on senators/ house reps

I doubt how effective a letter campaign would be.
We did letter campaign's couple of times and it didn't bring any coverage or change.
I still believe a clock (backward or distorted) is a good idea.
It is not letter only, it is sending pamphlets along with the letters which is meant to put them to shame. (zero cost). Please see the sample pamphlets from my earlier posts.

Here is my point. I spend several hours 3-4 hours at least every day looking through the forum posts hoping to find ways i can contribute to efforts. There are several ideas that are generated in the forum. But cannot find out who is leading it. All i am saying is if we can have a listing of initiatives with some names associated. So i can contribute to the ones that i can support. I am not sure if i am asking for too much here. I am not a IT guy. I do not know what it takes to post it in the front page.

It will be great if everyone who comes to IV contributes. That would be the ideal case scenario. But I think if there were specific donation drives like the one that is on going, then I believe a lot of people who believe in that cause would contribute and others who dont, wont!
Now, in this donor's only club that IV is proposing to have, what does the core have in mind. Is that going to be a forum where exclusive information is provided? What is the incentive for a "donor" to visit the general public forum? If the "donor"s dont visit the general forum arent you effectively killing off the general forum?
Like I had posted earlier, what stops a donor from making whatever is there in the donors only forum made available to everyone? Isnt this going to cause more divisions within IV?
Instead of forum for donors wouldnt it make more sense to have additional features made available to donors? Say, like having the ability to ask questions to a immigration lawyer or if any lawmaker is ready to answer quetions, the ability to post questions to them. This data will be sought by all of us but if we are not ready to support the effort, it will be tough to invest in it. The subscriptions will help us continue IV initiatives with more zeal and we will know that a lot of members support us.

I think IV is trying to bring State Chapters also onto the website instead of individual list serves. I do not have any details, maybe pappu or Aman can throw light on this. But nevertheless, we can currently execute things in the way we are doing now.

We are in a lot better shape than we were sometime back.
I totally agree ... just look one year back ... today most of us are enjoying EAD/AP, and security net of AC21. Compare this with the situation we had on just H1B.

If there is abuse of the system, then people should go ahead and complain to USCIS WITH PROOF. Writing hearsay stories on the forum without proof will not help solve anything.
